If My Computer Does Not Support Sata, Can I Use A External Sata Drive?

Yes, you can use an external SATA drive on a computer that doesn’t support it. As long as your computer has USB ports, preferably 2.0, and the external SATA Drive has a USB interface, then it will work without a problem. If you have Windows 2000 or XP or later, you won’t even have to install drivers for it. Your computer simply sees it as a USB Storage device.

If you do not have an ESATA connection on your motherboard that is exposed on the back of your computer, then you cannot use an ESATA external hard drive. If it’s in a USB or firewire enclosure, and you have either of those connections, then yes, you can have an SATA hard drive.
My computer did not support SATA either, but I hate having anything external, so I bought an SATA adapter card so I could support an internal SATA hard drive… and it’s awesome!
